If you have never read stories of Sai Baba’s youth, this is a lively little book in which Sai Baba, Himself, recounts stories from His childhood, of growing up in the Raju family, as well as stories of His relationships at school with teachers and classmates. The emphasis of all these stories is how, from a young age, Swami’s mission was to set an example to others of what He has always proclaimed, “My life is my message.” The book, which was compiled from discourses of Sri Sathya Sai Baba by the Sri Sathya Sai Books and Publications Trust, also has rare, vintage pictures of the family Swami was born into, and a very early picture of the ashram. Most interestingly, Swami vividly recounts life in the remote village that was Puttaparthi when He was a boy. Little by little, the Avatar turned an empty, dry, sandy plot of land into Prasanthi Nilayam, and eventually in the Garden of Eden it is today. This would also be an excellent book for older children to read.
