About Sathya Sai

Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba

November 23, 1926 – April 24, 2011

Infinite Love…forever in our hearts.

“Sa means Divine, Ai means mother, and Baba means father. The name indicates the Divine Mother and Father.” Baba

Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba was born in Puttaparthi, a small village in south India, on November 23, 1926. As a child, He demonstrated exemplary qualities of compassion, generosity and wisdom that clearly distinguished Him as extraordinary among the children of His village.

On October 29, 1940, at the age of 14, He declared to His family that He would henceforth be known as Sai Baba and that His mission was to bring about the spiritual regeneration of humanity by demonstrating and teaching the highest principles of truth, righteous conduct, peace, love and non-violence.

While Sathya Sai Baba displayed extraordinary knowledge and abilities, His most heralded characteristic was that He radiated a powerful feeling of profound inner peace, and vast, limitless unselfish love. Untold numbers of individuals around the globe experienced this while in his physical proximity, as well as while in locations removed from Him by distance near or far.

Stating that He did not seek to establish a new religion or gain followers, He consistently encouraged seekers to worship according to their chosen faith, and strive to realize their own inherent Divine nature. He lead a simple life at His ashram, Prashanti Nilayam (Abode of Divine Peace) close to the place of His birth, where He graciously received many thousands of spiritual pilgrims of all faiths from around the world, walking among them to guide, comfort, counsel and uplift.

He established hospitals, elementary and secondary schools, colleges, a major university and purification systems which provide clean drinking water to numerous villages throughout India – all of which provide services without charge. He has also inspired the creation of over 5,000 centers throughout the world, whose members practice His spiritual teachings and engage in a variety of community service activities.

Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba left his mortal form on the auspicious holy day of Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011, leaving behind His living legacy of love in the hearts of countless devotees throughout the nations of the world.
